March 22, 2021: Free Jacks drop opener to LA Giltinis

The Free Jacks lost the season opener to the Los Angeles Giltinis over the weekend, falling 42-27 at the Los Angeles Coliseum.

It looked ominous for the Free Jacks early, the visitors giving up two tries in the first fifteen minutes, as the hosts effectively moved the ball around the back line in the brilliant sunshine to run out an early fourteen point lead. DTH  Van Der Merwe was the try scorer both times, while Matt Giteau was perfect with the conversions.

The Free Jacks fought back effectively, using a short side lineout move to cut the deficit. A flurry of yellow cards were issued by the referee before halftime – two to the Free Jacks, one to LA, but the Free Jacks kept in touch on the scoreboard, trailing just 21-17 at the half.
