Sept 24, 2016 ARP Week 3 NYAC and Mystic Cruise to wins

NYAC and Mystic River were the big winners in Week 3, with Mystic rebounding from a narrow loss to Old Blue with a resounding 86-0 win over Boston RFC, while NYAC enjoyed a solid 44-7 outing on the road against the Boston Irish Wolfhounds.

In Canton, NYAC was on the board before the fans had settled in their seats, jumping out to a 7-0 lead. The visiting team kept the pressure on, moving out to a 24-0 half time score, with a pretty combination between Pro player Harry Bennett and scrumhalf Justin Hundley being the highlight of the half. The Wolfhounds had opportunities to get on the board but missed penalty kicks and inopportune turnovers denied the home side any points.

The high tempo continued through the second half, even as some reserves made their way onto the field.  “We played very well out of the blocks”, said NYAC coach Mick Quinn later, saying “we came out with a game plan and we executed it very well for the first twenty or thirty minutes, built up a score. After that Boston Irish certainly came back into it, and it would be silly to say we took our foot off the gas, we weren’t allowed to keep our foot on the gas as they certainly stood up to us. I thought our pack played very well, gave us the platform to get the lead and we held onto it for the rest of the game, but ultimately our win came from our first half performance”.

Wolfhounds’ Stu Abbott concurred with the assessment: “NYAC is a top quality side, but I’m impressed with the effort we gave.  We never let the heads droop, and battled to the end of the game”.

Standout performers on the day included hard working NYAC flanker Ross Deacon, very visible in a dominant NYAC pack, as well as Wolfhounds backs Paddy Owens and Danny Collins.

Week 4 will see NYAC play Old Blue in an intriguing game, while in Malden the Boston Irish Wolfhounds will try to slow down the Mystic River juggernaut.
